Himalayas
The Himalayas, or Himalaya form a mountain range in Asia separating the plains of the Indian subcontinent from the Tibetan Plateau. The Himalayan range has many of the Earth's highest peaks, including the highest, Mount Everest.
Arguably, those who long to experience the essence of natural wonders on Tibetan plateau, one place they couldn’t afford to miss is Shigatse Prefecture---home to the world’s summits. Stretching over 2,400 km from northwest to southeast, the Himalayan range is jointly shared by China(Tibet), Nepal, India, Bhutan and pakistan. Proudly, five of the 14 world’s highest mountains(above 8000m) are situated in Shigatse Prefecture, Tibet Autonomous Region, China.
In addition, over one fifth of world’s top 100 independent summits are scattered in Shigatse, such as Tingri county, Nyalam county and Gyirong county which borders Nepal. The abundant towering snow-capped mountains truly make Shigatse one of prime attractions in Tibet. Let’s check some of the giants in Shigatse.
Widely lauded as the highest mountain in the world, Mt. Everest symbolizes the “sacred mother of land” in the legends of Tibet. The legend goes that the five fairies of longevity love residing on the top of Mt. Everest. So, they swear to Guru Rinpoche to protect the people, land and Buddhism down below the holy mountain.
And the best time to visit Mt. Everest at Everest Base Camp (5200m) would be from April to June and Sept. to Nov. You would be likely to enjoy the stunning view like Flag Clouds over Mt. Everest and its sunning sunrise and sunset.
